The ASFLC: Discussion on the Strategic Enrollment Plan

The Associated Students of Fort Lewis College discussed on Wednesday their involvement with the strategic enrollment plan.

There is a strategic enrollment plan group on campus that works directly with Noel Levitz, Glenna Sexton, vice president of student affairs said. The ASFLC currently has no association with the strategic enrollment plan.

Ruffalo Noel Levitz is an enrollment management and fundraising company that FLC has hired to try and help increase FLC enrollment, Connor Cafferty, president of the ASFLC said.

“I think it would be huge if ASFLC got involved in the strategic enrollment plan,” Ian Fullinwider, senator and the chair of student services said.

It is understood thus far that this group is comprised of administration only in conjunction with Ruffalo Noel Levitz, Sexton said.

“I feel like there has been an issue of not a lot of transparency,” Jordyn Abrams, senator and chair of public relations said.

Cafferty serves on the strategic planning committee and did not know about the strategic enrollment plan, which is the separate group that works with RNL.

“I think it is concerning that the ASFLC president has not been invited to sit in that group”, Cafferty said.

“I will definitely be bringing that up to President Thomas,” Cafferty said.

Some of the conversations in these meetings may have been different had there been student representation, Cafferty said.

“There is a need in this process for students to be involved,” he said.

The strategic enrollment planning committee that has already met with RNL is in the process of taking ideas for programs or policies from different parties on campus in order to boost enrollment, Cafferty said.

Ideas that have a sufficient financial impact will then be given to teams of faculty, staff and students to further consider, Sexton said.

The plans taken from those teams will be brought forth for possible inclusion for the next strategic plan, Sexton said.

“It is very important that we take a stance on student representation in this process,” Cafferty said.
