THE INDEPENDENT

OUR TEAM

Empowering voices, inspiring action

The Independent News Organization is Fort Lewis College's student managed and produced news publication. The Independent has two branches, the bi-weekly print publication, The Independent News Magazine, and for breaking news and event coverage, The Indy Online. The Independent is committed to producing timely, accurate and humane news for the Fort Lewis and Durango communities.

In addition to serving our readers, the Independent offers several benefits to our staff. Students gain active, real and applied experience while working with the Independent. Being on staff offers students a chance to develop professional skills and connections and a dynamic set of tools to apply in the professional industry.Students can participate as club members as well as gain lower division and upper division course credit for enrolling in the practicum course.

There is a managing editor for each side of The Independent, the content Editor in Chief and the business side Business Director. Both can answer any specific questions about the organization. There are also department editors that can answer any questions specific to their department. Please contact any editor with questions about the Independent, call the office, or stop by.
