What is your definition of self care?

Alita Lynch

Lilly Githara

Lilly Githara, 19, first-year student: “Taking time and taking a step back to look at what you need to do the best you can.”

David Enoah, 21, transfer student: “Self care is what brings you joy, what brings you happiness, and what brings you relief. Self care is your time and what you want to do with it. There are many forms of what that can look like.”

What do you do for self care?

Alita Lynch, 18, first-year student: Lynch said she spends time sitting with herself, journaling, or watching TV.

David Enoah, 21, transfer student: The way Enoah said he practices self care depends on his mood. The main things he enjoys are lying on the grass, shopping, driving, or grocery shopping by himself with headphones on and music playing.

Kaneesha Bitsinnie, 19, first-year student: Bitsinnie said she is trying to improve herself, by looking out for her nutrition intake. She said she goes to the gym and plays volleyball for her mentality and she likes to treat herself.

What tip do you have to share with the student body?

Alita Lynch, 18, first-year student: “Even though it becomes inconvenient when you are busy, prioritizing self care is the most important thing. If you keep putting it off until you get something done, then you will not really be able to do it because more and more things keep coming up.”

David Enoah, 21, transfer student: “Be comfortable being by yourself.”

Kaneesha Bitsinnie, 19, first-year student: “Work on your mentality and try to strengthen that. Also, take the time to spend more time outdoors with yourself.”

Lilly Githara, 19, first-year student: “Self care is important. Make sure to take time for yourself when things are manageable.”
