Cirk La Putyka will be performing at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The comedy group will perform their Slapstick Sonata, which is a mixture of visual poetry, physical comedy and contemporary circus.

Cirk La Putyka is from the Czech Republic and they have traveled around the world, but they haven’t performed in Colorado before.

The group is comprised of 20 members who are are a mixture of actors, musicians, acrobats, puppeteers and dancers.

The group was first established in 2009 and they have seven acts that they routinely perform: La Putyka, Up’End’Down, Slapstick Sonata, Risk, Airground, Play, and Dolls.

Their Slapstick Sonata performance is a mixture of physical acrobatics and old school European circus, Charles Leslie, director of the Community Concert Hall, said.

The combination of aerial work and the creativity of the group is one of the reasons that the Community Concert Hall wanted to bring them to Durango, Leslie said.

Cirk La Putyka works to transform the art of acrobatics, contemporary dance, puppetry, concert and sport.

“They’ll knock your socks off,” Leslie said.

Many people in Durango are interested in and enjoy they type of art and physical performance that the Cirk La Putyka captures, another reason to bring them to Durango, Leslie said.

The Slapstick Sonata is a 90 minute performance set to the music of Mozart, Handel, Shostakovich and others.

The sonata starts as a crew of workers on night shift go through the motions of their monotonous jobs.

Eventually they break out of routine and the comedy begins.

Tickets to the show are $29 for Orchestra and Balcony seats and $39 for Plaza seats.

Faculty and staff tickets are $26.10 for Orchestra and Balcony seats and $35.10 for Plaza seats.

Students can get $15 rush tickets an hour before the show starts with their student ID.
