ASFLC Meeting 9/18

Kiiyahno Edgewater

During the Sept. 18 meeting of the fall semester, the Associated Students of Fort Lewis College passed two resolutions and detailed their plans for upcoming events.

Resolution 25-02 was unanimously approved, appointing Sen. Kyle Hornbuckle to the administrative parliamentarian position.

Sen. Thomas Bearden amended resolution 24-02 from the previous meeting to 25-03, which was also unanimously voted on, approving Devinski Elianor’s application for a senator position.

President Brittany Bitsilly called the meeting into order at 7:02 p.m., followed by a reading of the land acknowledgement.

During public participation, two FLC students show their interest in the first-year ambassador position, and three other students in the senator roles.

The Financial Allocation Board did not attend the meeting, and no guest speakers presented.

After resolutions were passed, the ASFLC executive officials read their reports.

Bitsilly’s report detailed events that ASFLC will collaborate in, as well as efforts to raise visibility for the First Generation Club, a registered student organization on campus.

Three senators are needed to help with the institutional fee review, which covers student activity fees and where they are allocated, Bistilly said.

Vice President Carmen Hall reported that the American Indigenous Business Leaders want to be put on the ASFLC board.

ASFLC is the student government at Fort Lewis College, and represents student interests at every level of the college. These include meetings for the board of trustees, the president’s cabinet, the budget advisory committee, and more. ASFLC holds meetings at 7 pm every wednesday in the senate chambers, and are open to student comments, suggestions, and participation.
