Hate Crimes on Campus Leading to New Diversity Programs
The recent incident of hate speech graffiti has led Associated Students of Fort Lewis College to discuss possible programs and ideas that can be set up to help reduce these issues.
Guest speaker Luke Matney, president of FLC’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender organization, PRISM, informed ASFLC that there will be a statement made by the Psychology department.
This statement will be signed by the psychology professors as well as many students and will be displayed in the Education Business Hall, Matney said.
The professors are hoping that other Register Student Organizations will join in and support in similar ways, he said.
Matney proposed many other ideas to help spread the word of diversity at FLC.
Many other members of ASFLC proposed ideas that will be discussed and decided upon at a later date.
Leadership Center Changes
National Society of Leadership and Success and The Leadership Center will be making changes to the programs.
It will be the last semester that the leadership programs will be tied to any national leadership program, said Mark Mastalski, the advisor and director of the Leadership Center.
Mastalski added that the first Snow Down jeopardy was a success and will be happening again.
Travel Grant Approval
The ASLFC approved the Beta Alpha Psi travel grant of $1,000 to go to Denver for an accounting conference.
