As Oct. 31 approaches, Fort Lewis College plans to make for an eventful holiday with Halloween-themed activities that will help prepare for the end of the month.
The Haunted House at FLC will take place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, and Wednesday, Oct. 29, said Edgar Anaya, residence director at Cooper Hall.
The event is in collaboration between Cooper Hall, Student Union Productions and the Residents on Campus Association, Anaya said.
The theme for the Haunted House is “The River of Lost Souls,” he said.
Since this is the only Haunted House in the area, a large turnout is expected, he said.
“We get a lot of compliments on it. People get scared,” Anaya said.
Setup for the Haunted House will begin Monday with the help of volunteers, he said
More volunteers are needed as actors and for set up starting Monday, he said.
Additionally, Outdoor Pursuits is hosting a Super Hero Climbing Competition at the Student Life Center climbing wall, Friday at 7 p.m. The competition is free for students that are OP members and $5 for non-members.
Students are encouraged to come dressed up and bring their super powers, Brett Davis, coordinator of OP, said in an email to OP members.
“I’ve really been trying to spread the word, and I think we’re expecting a good turn out,” Jason Bernz, the route setter, said.
Bernz has set up the event for the past two years, he said.
“There’s quite a few good climbers that are a part of OP this year, and it’ll be great to see them compete against the rest of the student body,” Bernz said.
Prizes offered to participants include OP water bottles, other small items and candy, he said.
“The best costume last year was a guy who wore some ridiculous short shorts and just did a great job dressing up like a girl,” he said.
It’s going to be competitive, but anyone and everyone should come, he said. Come dressed up, and come to have fun, Bernz said.
