FLC Pulls Out the Dominant Victory over Rockhurst

The Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team beat the Rockhurst University Hawks 10-5 on Tuesday in a game that FLC held the lead for its entirety.

 

This moves the Skyhawks to a 4-5 record overall for the season and a 4-2 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Rockhurst falls to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the RMAC. FLC is now in fourth place in the RMAC and Rockhurst drops to sixth.

 

Nikki Fry and Shelby Madden each had three goals for the Skyhawks and FLC’s goalkeeper, Alyssa Spencer, had 11 saves against Rockhurst.

 

Both Fry’s and Madden’s hat-tricks were the first of their FLC careers. Madden, who finished with the game-high of five points, also added two assists, which were both to Brooke Galle for her two goals of the day.

 

The Skyhawks had 21 turnovers to the Hawks’ 13, but still managed to outshoot the Hawks 26-22.

 

FLC got up to a 3-0 lead when Galle scored her second goal with 19:36 remaining in the first half.

 

Shayna Stevens scored one of her two goals for Rockhurst with 18:05 left in the first half. Stevens then scored her second goal with 9:28 left after FLC’s Madden scored her first goal of the game.

 

Madden scored again at 5:48 and then Rockhurst’s Tessa Boots scored with :51 to take the game into halftime with a score of 5-3.

 

Madden scored her third and final goal of the game about six minutes into the second half and Ryann Pierce added her only goal a little over a minute later making it 7-3 Skyhawks with 22:29 remaining in the game.

 

Clare Goessling scored for Rockhurst at 13:07 and FLC’s Delaney Benson added her one goal with 11:08 remaining.

 

Fry scored her second goal at 9:25 left in the game and Madeline Gilstrap added Rockhurst’s last goal with 6:20 remaining.

 

FLC’s final goal came when Fry completed her hat-trick at 5:44 remaining with an assist from Taylor Cabrera to make the final score 10-5 in favor of the Skyhawks.


FLC’s next game is against the Adams State Grizzlies at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 7 at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.
