The Fort Lewis College Skyhawks women’s lacrosse team made history Thursday afternoon at home when they recorded the first shutout in program history, 19-0, against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions.

The dominating win Thursday for the Skyhawks (6-5, 6-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) extends their win-streak to four games as they look to face off against the #17 Regis Rangers, who are undefeated in the RMAC, in their next game.

For the Mountain Lions, however, they drop to 4-8 overall and 0-7 in the RMAC. This is the first year UCCS has had women’s lacrosse, so the program is still starting up and getting their wits about them in the league.

The scoring was kicked off by sophomore Ryann Pierce just 1:48 into the game making the score 1-0. Junior Taylor Cabrera followed with a strike just 13 seconds later extending the lead to 2-0.

By halftime the score was 12-0 with nine different Skyhawks scoring off of seven assists.

After the first 30 minutes, the Skyhawks were outshooting the Mountain Lions 20-5, winning the draw control battle 10-3, and winning the ground ball battle 16-5.

In the second half it was more of the same for the Skyhawks. More specifically, it was a second half to remember for three FLC players. Pierce, Cabrera, and Junior Brooke Galle all finished off with hat-tricks by the end of the game.

The ending score was 19-0 and it wasn’t even that close. The Skyhawks ended up outshooting the Mountain Lions 33-7, winning the draw control battle 14-6, and annihilating the ground ball battle 26-12.

The Skyhawks next game is against the #17 ranked Regis Rangers next Thursday in Denver at three p.m.
