Associated Students of Fort Lewis College met Wednesday night to discuss the idea of an ASFLC forum with students, appoint a new senator, and approve new RSO, Women in SOBA.

ASFLC Forum

The idea of an ASFLC forum was brought to the table Wednesday night by ASFLC Sen. Rebecca Judy.

This year ASFLC has started to laying the foundations of being more transparent with the student body, she said.

By hosting a forum with the students, it provides the opportunity to start having the transparency that ASFLC is looking for, Chance Salway, ASFLC President said.

Although there is not a set date for when this forum will be taking place, the table is hopeful to hold the forum before the students set out for Thanksgiving break.

The place that the forum will be held is still not set, but the idea of either using the Animas Hall Lounge or Student Union was brought up during table discussion. The idea would be to have an ugly sweater theme with winter treats and drinks.

Senator Appointment

There was need for ASFLC to fill the last senator spot on the table.

Cody Stroup showed interest in the position last week by he attended the meeting and was interviewed by the table in executive session.

Stroup was appointed on to the table by a two-thirds majority vote.

Certain positions are elected by the student body, including the position of senators, Chance Salway, ASLFC president.

When there is need to fill a vacant spot on the table with a senator out of election season, the table appoints an individual that has shown interested.

ASFLC will now be operating at full capacity, Alyssa Yocky, ASLFC vice president, said.

Women in SOBA

Gloria Mora, founder of Women in SOBA, came to ASFLC Wednesday on Oct. 24 to present her organization to gain their approval to be a new RSO.

After writing a paper based on women in the workplace, Mora saw that there was a significant disadvantage that women were facing and that they are still facing today, Mora said.

Mora said she has built this organization in order to provide these women with knowledge and skills to give them an advantage in the workplace.

Women in SOBA wants to help FLC women get a leg up on their business endeavors, Mora said.

The meetings for this organization will be held every other Thursday starting on Oct 25.
